Tungsten Heavy Alloys
Tungsten Heavy Alloys (WHA)
Tungsten Parts Wyoming manufactures tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) components in WNiFe and WNiCu grades per ASTM B777 Class 1 to 4, machined powder-to-part in Laramie, Wyoming. WHA combines tungsten density up to 18.8 g/cc with good machinability for counterweights, ballast, and radiation shielding.
Why Tungsten Heavy Alloy from TPW?
Tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) combines extreme density with the machinability pure tungsten lacks - the practical choice for counterweights, ballast, and shielding:
- Density up to 18.8 g/cc: Maximum mass in minimal volume for precision counterweights and balance applications.
- Good Machinability: Unlike pure tungsten, WHA machines to tight tolerances and complex geometries on standard equipment.
- ASTM B777 Class 1-4 Grades: Full range of tungsten content and density classes to match your strength and density targets.
- US-Manufactured, AS9100D Certified: Aerospace-grade quality management with material certifiable to ASTM B777 and DFARS.

What TPW Makes in Tungsten Heavy Alloy
WHA components, built to your specification:
- Available in alloy grades from 17.0 to 18.8 g/cm³ per ASTM B777 / AMS7725F
- Certificate of Conformance (C of C) on every order; full lot traceability
- First-article inspection with dimensional and weight verification
- AS9100D and ISO 9001 certified; ITAR-registered; DFARS-compliant; Made in USA
Every WHA order ships with a Certificate of Conformance and dimensional verification. Direct coordination with our Laramie, Wyoming facility. Request a quote with your grades, geometry, and quantities.
Tungsten-Nickel-Iron (W-Ni-Fe)
High Density: maximum of 18.8 g/cc. High Strength: tensile strength 700-1000 MPa. Excellent Radiation Protection: 1.7 times that of lead at equal thickness.
Tungsten-Nickel-Copper (W-Ni-Cu)
High Density: maximum of 18.8 g/cc. High Strength: tensile strength 600-900 MPa. Excellent Radiation Protection: 1.7 times that of lead at equal thickness.
ASTM B777 Classes
| Class | Tungsten content | Approx. density |
|---|---|---|
| Class 1 | 90% W | ~17.0 g/cc |
| Class 2 | 92.5% W | ~17.5 g/cc |
| Class 3 | 95% W | ~18.0 g/cc |
| Class 4 | 97% W | ~18.5 g/cc |
Certified Above the ASTM B777 Minimum
TPW Class 2 heavy alloy typically certifies to 895 MPa ultimate tensile strength and 30 percent elongation, well above the ASTM B777 minimums of 758 MPa and 5 percent. That margin gives the material room to deform under load rather than fracture. Full property tables, including Class 4, are on our technical data page.
Produced to ASTM B777. DFARS 252.225-7052 Sourcing Confirmation.
All Tungsten Parts Wyoming tungsten heavy alloys are produced in the USA under our AS9100D-certified aerospace quality management system, with material certifiable to ASTM B777 and DFARS 252.225-7052 on a per-program basis.
